With ELA technology being used in a variety of ways for all grade levels, I see myself being most prepared to teach SmartBoard activities, Microsoft Word, online presentations through Prezi, and YouTube. These standards translate as LAFS.3.W.2.6, LAFS.3.SL.2.5, and LAFS.5.SL.1.2. From grades K-5, I would feel comfortable teaching almost any of these standards to the grade levels above with my existing knowledge. Some technology standards that require further learning may be Pixlr, mystorybook.com, iMovie, Study Blue, and more. With time, I will be able to comprehend these technology websites and their uses. Even further studying and learning must be done when it comes to middle and high school. Technological uses advance from grade to grade, and to stay on track, teachers must learn how to use websites and programs to enhance the learning of their students.
One of the CPALMS tools I would use in a classroom may be a resource for my 3rd grade math class. One of the hundreds of resources listed on the CPALMS website is titled “Multiply By Multiples of Ten: Part 1.” By utilizing this resource, students will learn to multiply single-digit numbers by ten with the help of an interactive tutorial. This resource is intended to help students feel more comfortable multiplying numbers by introducing them to times tables. There are practice equations within the presentation, as well as tutorials to ease into multiplying numbers. If I were a 3rd grade math teacher, I would 100% use this resource to help my students feel comfortable throughout their introduction to multiplication.
By working on the Newsletter due this week, I have learned many skills related to Microsoft Word. From creating headers and footers to saving documents in various formats, this project has enhanced my previous knowledge of MS Word. In terms of difficulty and improving for next time, formatting a Word document will be something to take into account. It may seem easy to decorate a page with information, but how others view the document is most important. An aesthetically pleasing document is key when presenting it to others. Parents and family members want to see exciting colors, but not too much clutter on one page which is one aspect I will improve on as I continue to devise my Newsletter Design. In terms of my future career, this one formatting tool can be detrimental. The significance of presentation can make or break a person’s career. By word of mouth, parents discover information and if they like what they see, they will tell others. This can be beneficial to any one person’s career because parents, clients, etc. will gain interest in certain professions to see the people that have been spoken so highly of. This assignment, again, may seem just like another class assignment, but in reality, it is much more than that when it comes to career-related topics.
